At Gracious Bakers, we are wholeheartedly dedicated to giving back to our community.

For every kilogram of flour produced in our factory, we donate 10% to various local organizations that are working tirelessly to support those in need. Our flour formulation is a vibrant blend, fortified with essential vitamins and minerals to fill the nutritional gaps often found in modern diets.

In a developing country like South Africa, the choices we make about food are often influenced by a range of socioeconomic factors. We are committed from the ground up to install a policy of Zero Waste throughout the organisation. We truly live this out in our factory where NOTHING goes to waste. We use every off-cut, every left over ingredient, not a gram goes to waste. When we make it a lifestyle the process of being waste aware becomes easier to live out.

Fortified flour is flour that contains added vitamins and minerals to improve its nutritional quality, to aid better overall nutrition, that is not naturally occurring in the base ingredients and flour.

Fortified flour originated from the need to increase the consumption of vitamins and minerals for better nutrition and to regulate bodily functions. Flour fortification formally started back in 1941 by the introduction of iron and B vitamins to wheat flour. Today a large percentage of flour consumed worldwide is enriched or fortified with B Vitamins and Minerals.

Fortified flour can be used in the manufacturing of various baked goods such as breads, biscuits, cakes and so much more without compromising its properties significantly. Fortified flour is considered safe by the FDA’s statement on enriched and fortified flours.

Flour fortification is an inexpensive way to increase the consumption of essential vitamins and minerals throughout populations worldwide. Not everyone can afford to buy all the added vitamins and minerals in tablet form. We should get all our vitamins and minerals from food, but in this day and age it is not possible due to soil nutrient depletions.

Ancient grains are fiber-rich whole grains that have remained largely unchanged for centuries, making them a nutritious addition to your diet. These grains, staples in many cultures worldwide, are now gaining popularity in Western countries. Interestingly, not all ancient grains are technically grains; some, like quinoa and buckwheat, are seeds known as “pseudocereals.” However, they are classified as ancient grains because they are prepared and eaten like grains.

Packed with protein, vitamins, and minerals, ancient grains are more robust and less processed than modern grains, making them significantly denser in nutrients and higher in fiber. Their unaltered and minimally processed nature provides numerous health benefits, including a reduced risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, certain cancers, and improved overall well-being.

Amaranth, Buckwheat, Sorghum, Quinoa, Millet, Teff, Fonio, Chia, Oats

In today’s times our crops have been altered and modified so much, that vital vitamins and minerals cannot be fully absorbed by the plants as they did centuries ago. Crops are growing much faster and therefore seed to crop times have been altered so drastically that there is not nearly enough time for plants to absorb enough vitamins and minerals from the ground as nature intended. Plant sizes have been manipulated and it all has an impact on our body’s health and wellness. Resting periods of the ground has fallen away, resulting in our grounds depletion of its naturally occurring nutrients, and are therefore added artificially.

These are all factors outside of our control, but as a manufacturer, we can try to make a small difference to people’s health and wellness by adding a unique blend of vitamins and minerals in line with FDA regulations into our base flours. We all have felt the effects one way or another of our modern-day diets. It’s time to make positive changes towards better nutrition and take responsibility for our own lives. Building a healthier nation is the only option, as disease, illness, diabetes and various other conditions are rapidly increasing. We are heading towards an enormous health crisis. Disease is created in the gut, and there simply is no better way to try and reverse the effects of highly processed diets that we have become accustomed to. Feeling well starts by Fueling well.

We at Gracious Bakers always strive to provide the cleanest ingredients in a 100% gluten free facility, safe for Celiacs as well. We make use of GMO-Free raw ingredients in our facility, and always strive to eliminate all unnecessary additives, processes and bulking agents. We mill all our own flours and spices in-house, to ensure our ingredients can truly carry a clean label. I personally believe a healthy body, mind and spirit is the only way to live a truly authentic life for the greater good of All.
